How to Get the Most out of your Massage Experience:

Massage therapy is a holistic practice that soothes your body and mind but sometimes lack of awareness ends up making your massage less effective than it could have been. There are several things you can do throughout the massage therapy process to make the most out of your session. Follow the simple yet super effective following tips to get the most out of your experience.

  • Hydrate Well- Hydration keeps muscle tissue healthy and easier to massage, so be sure to drink plenty of water before your massage.  Like any form of exercise, massage is somewhat dehydrating so be sure to drink plenty of water after your massage as well.
  • Avoid Eating Right Before the therapy:
Generally, a full meal right before you hit the spa is a no-go, as massage certainly stimulates digestion. Try to eat a few hours ahead and don’t skip eating something light. You may feel dizzy or light-headed during the massage if you don’t eat. Massage stimulates digestion so save the multi-course meal for after your session.
  • Skip the Post-Massage Caffeine:
If you book an early-morning massage session, be sure to drink your morning coffee before your therapy. It is best avoided after therapy as caffeine after a massage can tense the muscles just worked on. A detox herbal tea or water instead is the best-suited beverage after a therapy.
  • Plan for Continuous or Multiple Sessions – Massage therapy works best when it has time to work, so one session may only have temporary benefits to your health. Instead, schedule multiple or continuous massage therapy sessions (if you have a permanent or long-term issue) to truly get the benefits of what a good massage routine can do for your body.
  • Communicate with your Healer: During the massage, you shouldn’t be afraid to tell your healer if something he is doing is uncomfortable, the pressure is not right, or if you have a question about what he is doing. Be sure to ask them to spend more time in a certain area if that is what you want.
  • Shower beforehand: Showering is a courtesy all therapists will appreciate, but it will also help create the ritual of slowing down and going into the treatment with intent. Plus, if you have showered before, you can skip showering after and allow the oils used during the massage to soak into your skin.
  • Focused Breathing: Never hold your breath during a massage. It’s tempting to tense up and not breathe while your massage therapist is working out a knot. Remember to breathe fully and deeply to carry oxygen to your blood and help tense muscles.
  • Comfort First: The rule of thumb is to “undress to your level of comfort”, but don’t be afraid to get naked, professional therapists would assist you and cover you as per your need. A thong might be just the solution.
  • Get Warm with added Amenities: Get to the spa early and steam, sauna, hot tub, and shower before your massage. Sweating will help you eliminate toxins and warmer muscles respond better and take much less time warming up and hence leading to a better experience.

The benefits of massage continue long after you come out of your therapy room if you practice the right self-care. Get the most out of your next massage with these tips and prepare to feel amazing. To choose the best suitable therapy for your next session, click on the menu below.
